What USPS postal class should I use to ship to my APO/FPO location?

APO Box customers have three US Postal Service (USPS) parcel shipping options to select from for your APO/FPO shipments. Each of the postal classes has different cost and speed advantages. At APO Box you can select the default shipping class you want via your customer control panel or via custom shipping requests for specific boxes.

Priority Mail®

Priority mail is the USPS Airmail shipping method for package up to 108" Length + Girth and under 70 pounds

Details:

  • This is the USPS fastest parcel shipping method to your APO/FPO address.
  • Packages will arrive to most locations in under two weeks.
  • USPS Priority mail rates can be very expensive for large or heavy packages (often over 30 USD).
  • The USPS charges dimensional rate on any box over 1 cubic foot
  • Can be used only to ship packages up to 108" LWG and up to 70 pounds.

Pricing:

  • Customer pays USPS Priority postage rate based on package size and weight
  • Customer pays parcel insurance
  • Customer pays APO Box Handling fee (based on weight. See Price Page for more details)

APO Box Direct

We created the APO Box Direct shipping mail class to give savings and fixed rates for our APO/FPO AE customers by negotiating better rates with the USPS as a Parcel Select APO/FPO bulk shipping consolidator.

Details:

  • APO Box Direct flat rate shipping includes USPS postage, handling and $100 insurance
  • For packages shipped to APO/FPO AE APO/FPO zip code starting with 09xxx (All AE zip codes).
  • Large cost savings for large and heavy packages
  • No sticker shock from USPS dimensional rate
  • For package up to 130" Length + Girth and under 70 pounds
  • APO Box Direct must be sent from our New Jersey Hub to an APO/FPO AE address.
  • Packages are sent via USPS Airmail to most AE locations including Iraq, and Afghanistan however are consolidated at the USPS APO/FPO hub before shipment out of the United States.
  • Due to the Military Postal Service shipping method, packages sent to Germany, England and Italy may be sent via surface mail by the USPS/MPSA. Surface shipping is a slower parcel shipping method that airmail.

  • APO Box Direct flat rate shipping includes postage, handling and $100 insurance on packages shipped to any APO FPO AE location from the APO Box New Jersey Hub.
  • $14.95 Flat Rate for regular size packages: 0-40 lbs Size: 0-108" LWG
  • $24.95 Flat Rate for large size packages: 40.1-70 lbs Size: 108.1-130" LWG

Parcel Post®

Parcel Post is the USPS surface only method for packages up to 130" Length + Girth and under 70 pounds. This method is good for large and oversize packages, or for lower rates for shipping.

If you have an APO/FPO AE address we recommend you use APO Box Direct instead of Parcel Post

APO size restrictionHow to measure package size (Length + Girth):
Maximum weight: 70 pounds.
Length = longest side of the box
Girth = H+W+H+W (measurement around the the box)
